The University of Western Australia and Curtin University of Technology are joint venture partners in the Radio Astronomy Science and Engineering Centre of Excellence, funded by the Western Australian government and the two University partners. The goals of the Centre are to: help build world-class and internationally successful radio astronomy and technology research capacity in Western Australia, with progressively increasing industry links, capable of leading scientific planning and execution of key research programs for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and its pathfinders; support activities undertaken at the Murchison Radio-Astronomy Observatory (MRO); support the scientific success of the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP) project via strong collaborations with CSIRO; support the development of other SKA pathfinder projects, such as the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA), with collaborating international institutions; develop radio astronomy technologies and associated ICT to meet the scientific needs of the Western Australian astronomical community; communicate forefront science and technology to schools, teachers and the Western Australian community. G08 European Fellowships SchemeThe Group of Eight is calling for applications under the Go8 European Fellowships scheme. On
offer are eight fellowships to early career researchers in Europe to
work in one of the Go8 universities for up to six months. Each
fellowship is worth AUD 20,000.The Fellowships are open to eligible
researchers in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Hungary, the Czech
Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria. Fellowship applications to UWA must be supported by a UWA academic supervisor and submitted to the UWA Research Grants Office by the 31st October 2008:
